How is prominent ear correction surgery for men (otoplasty for men) performed?
A patient only needs a local anesthesia before a prominent ear correction surgery, which takes between 1 and 2 hours, depending on the extent of the correction. Dr. Molnár makes a very small and inconspicuous incision behind the ears to expose the cartilage, which allows him to sculpt the ear cartilage to a proportional shape and guide it backwards towards the head. After surgery, the patient's ears are bandaged and remain bandaged for about one week until the stitches have either been removed or have dissolved on their own. Our ears heal very quickly and patients will be left with only a very faint scar behind the ears.
Recovery from prominent ear correction surgery for men
It is quite common to experience some minor throbbing pain for a few days after ear correction surgery, for which Dr. Molnár will prescribe pain medication. Although the ears may remain swollen or bruised for a couple of weeks, most people can return to normal activities after 5 days. For one month after the surgery, however, extra care must be taken with vigorous or any contact sport that might involve the ear being bent back. Patients should avoid these activities to allow the ears to fully heal.
