Upper eyelid surgery procedure
Upper eyelid surgery is a simple surgical procedure performed using local anesthesia and a light intravenous sedation. The procedure takes approximately 30 minutes. After making a slight incision, the surgeon removes excess fat, tightens the skin, and carefully closes the incision using electro-cauterization which helps seal blood vessels and reduce hemorrhaging.
Who is a good candidate for upper eyelid surgery?
To be considered for upper eyelid surgery you must be in good health. A consultation with a BeautyHungary surgeon will clarify your expectations and determine whether or not you are an ideal candidate for an upper eyelid surgical procedure. For this surgery, a special pre-examination appointment is not typically required.
Upper eyelid surgery recovery
After the operation it is common for patients to experience a stretched sensation around the eyes, which usually lasts only a couple of days. Full recovery from an upper eyelid surgery can take up to 10 days and a mild pain killer may be prescribed by the surgeon. The patient can usually return to daily activities soon after the surgical procedure.
Even straightforward surgeries can suffer post operative complications if certain precautions are not followed and upper eyelid surgery is no exception. After the operation an ointment may be prescribed to lubricate the eyes and reduce dryness in the treated area. It is also recommended for the patient's head to remain elevated the first night after the surgery and also to refrain from performing certain tasks and activities. These include, but are not limited to: bending, crying, lifting heavy objects, and participating in sports activities. Your doctor will advise you more specifically about what you should and shouldn't do and will recommend a suitable recovery period.
After an upper eyelid operation it is not uncommon to experience blurred vision - this clears within a matter of 2-3 days. During the first weeks after the surgery, it is not recommended to participate in any activities that can dry your eyes. Activities such as reading, watching TV, using a computer, or wearing contact lenses should be avoided. Cold compresses may also need to be applied to the eyelids and your surgeon will monitor your blood pressure as a precautionary measure.
Upper eyelid surgery temporarily leaves the eyes red and a little swollen, but once the sutures are removed and the swelling subsides the benefits will be noticeable and you will be amazed at the difference. After an upper eyelid operation, fine pink scars may be noticeable for about six months. These scars can be easily covered with makeup before they eventually fade and become nearly invisible.
